Apply to Join the Hai Team!
HSS owns a Zoé-named Hai boat received as a donation in 2023, which will be used to introduce club members to the joys and secrets of wooden boat sailing, maintenance, and history. The goal of the club is to inspire as many sailors as possible on Zoé to become enthusiastic about wooden boat sailing and eventually acquire their own sailboat inspired by this experience. Applications for joining the Hai Team are now open!
The Zoe can be used by selected club members who join the separate Hai Team and are also responsible for the boat’s maintenance and upkeep with the assistance of experienced classic sailors. The first Hai Team will be selected for the 2024 season based on applications, with a maximum of 10 members in the group.
All HSS members and individuals committed to joining the club if selected for the Hai Team are eligible to apply.
HSS’s Classic Committee will select Hai Team members based on applications, taking into account the following criteria:
- Hai Team is suitable for individuals who have mastered at least the basics of independent sailing.
- Applicants are expected to have a particular interest in wooden boats, their history, and maintenance.
- The club hopes that the boat will sail as much as possible next summer and is therefore looking for active individuals who want to accumulate nautical miles with the boat.
- Applicants should be prepared to discuss the following: your sailing background, any completed certifications (e.g., archipelago skipper course, boat captain course, or marine VHF certification).
- How you plan to spend time sailing, your expectations, and desires, and whether you are applying individually or with others.
- The goal is that at least some of the individuals in the Hai Team for the 2024 season will continue to run the project in the future and be responsible for recruiting new people for future seasons.
