Night watch duty

Importance of Night Watch
It is in the shared interest of all berth holders that the harbour is guarded throughout the sailing season. Early and late in the season there may be fewer boats in the harbour, but weather conditions can be challenging, and a night watch is still needed. Night watch duties at HSS’s home harbour are carried out by members who rent a berth. Night watch is active from the beginning of May to mid-October.
Age Limit and Special Situations
Members over the age of 70 who have a berth and feel unable to perform their night watch duty may contact the office.
Booking
Members can choose a night watch date that best suits them via the digital booking calendar. Instructions for the night watch are sent to the member by email before their shift.
During the Shift
Night watch begins at 20:00 and ends at 08:00. The watch lowers the HSS flag at sunset, but no later than 21:00, and raises it again at 08:00. Please arrive before 20:00 if the wind is strong. The night watch logbook, where events and patrols are recorded, can be found in the restaurant lobby, to the left of the main entrance.
Exemption from Night Watch Duty, Responsibility and Penalties
The boat owner with a berth is responsible for ensuring the night watch shift is properly completed. A penalty fee is charged if the duty is neglected.
A berth holder who does not wish to perform the night watch themselves can be exempted by informing the office when booking the berth. In this case, a security fee is added to the berth fee according to the current price list. If the absence is notified in advance, the fee is €210. For unnotified absences, a fee of €368 applies. The boat owner may also arrange a substitute.
