Inspection

The HSS is a sailing club under the SPV (Finnish Sailing and Boating Association) and boats in the register of sailing clubs and boat clubs belonging to the SPV are inspected annually.


Having your boat inspected is important for a number of reasons, first and foremost for your own safety:

  1. Safety: the inspection ensures that the boat complies with safety regulations. This includes proper lifesaving equipment, first aid and other safety equipment that can be crucial in emergency situations.
  2. Environmentally friendly: Inspection ensures that the boat complies with environmental requirements and that the fuel and oil systems are leak-proof. This helps prevent oil leaks and other environmental hazards.
  3. Laws and regulations: Inspection ensures that the boat complies with local, national and international laws and regulations.
  4. Maintenance of the boat’s condition: Inspection checks the general condition of the boat, including the condition of the hull, engine and fittings. This helps to ensure that the boat is safe and in working order.
  5. Insurance requirements: a boat with a berth in the club harbour must be insured and inspected.
  6. Order and reliability: Inspection promotes order and reliability among boaters. By holding all boats to the same standards, it creates a safer and more predictable environment on the water.

In summary, a boat inspection is a comprehensive way to ensure that a boat is safe, environmentally friendly, legal and in working order.

Dinghies are exempt from the inspection. If, for valid reasons (e.g. repairs), the boat is not launched during the sailing season and is therefore not inspected, the inspectors must be informed. A non-inspected boat will not be allowed to use the club’s stern flag and will be subject to a penalty fee of €250.
